Ahh games…

By some miracle I was able to assemble my old game group over the weekend! Phil was up visiting for a few days, and I got Nolan over here as well (he actually has his own car now, so he could drive himself!!) We started off with a classic game of Settlers of Catan (no expansions) for old time sake; I won. Then we moved on to Acquire, quite possibly the best American board game ever made; I won. We ordered pizza and started playing Alhambra, a game I fell in love with at The Gathering, and took a break when the pizza showed up (we actually ordered anchovies on 1/2 of one of the pizzas… don’t think I’ll be ordering anchovies again anytime soon). After the pizza was eaten, and a quick commercial free episode of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge was watched, we were back to the game table to finish up Alhambra... this time unfortunately I didn’t win, Phil did (but I got second, so there!) We had one more game in us, so we pulled out another ‘old’ favorite, The Traders of Genoa... This game is a lot of fun, but we’re always a bit reluctant to bring it out, because it’s a longish game, and you have to be active the whole way through it… you’re constantly vying for attention, even when it’s not your turn. It was as good (and not as long) as I remember, but again I only got second, Phil took home first prize for the 2nd time that night.

After we were done with board games, we switched over to the Xbox, specifically Halo. Now that I have two Xboxes (yeah, I know I still have to post part 3 of my mod story) we were able to split up on two TVs. Kara and I took the upstairs TV, and Phil & Nolan got the big baby downstairs. I was the clear Halo winner for the night, winning nearly every game… and KILLING on a 25 kill slayer game with no shields and only shotguns (named “Micah’s game” on my Xbox HD, because Micah was the one that introduced it to me).

It was a really fun night, but alas not another one for probably a looooooooong time; Nolan is moving away from Seattle within the month, and Phil went back home to Kalama today. I mentioned my board games to some coworkers a few days ago in hopes of recruiting a new game group, but (as expected) they didn’t seem too interested. Back to the games that require no fellow gamers… video games :|

You're not that sad that you have to revert back to video games are you? Board games are called that for one reason, b/c they're boring. Except Jenga, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Crossfire (you gotta win it in the crossfire!!) But those games really don't count as "board" games b/c they don't have boards.

Also I think you should do a "recap" blog of your gaming time, when *I'm* playing Halo with you. All you'd be seeing is the butt of my rifle baby.....oww!

Dude! Sweeeeet! I had a ton of fun playing Halo with some buddies on Friday night. Only six of us but with two TVs/Xboxes, it was a blast.

Oh, and curse you Jake!!! Christy and I are now hooked on board games. But, since it's fun I guess I'll be lifting the curse after you lose only half your hair ;) We have really loved playing Acquire! How come we never played this with you guys? We also bought Alhambra for Christmas and Puerto Rico a week later! We realy miss playing games with you guys but there's a surprising number of people here who love playing Settlers and we've been able to introduce some other fun games!

It could be worse. You could be living in Kalama, for christ's sake.

mooca - I think you better come up here and back up your words... I promise I'll recap how I kicked your ass!

Jeremy - I'm pretty sure I suggested Acquire at least once while you were over, but we have the scary looking '60's version which probably scared you off (I got it at a garage sale for 25 cents!!)

Nate - You are so right, thanks for putting it all in perspective... It'd sure suck to be Phil! hahaha

yeah, phil definately sucks.....

Laughable, utterly laughable. To baselessly claim that Kalama "sucks" is a simple hatefilled lie rooted in misconceptions and self-loathing. To make it worse, I HIGHLY doubt you've actually ever truely visited and experienced Kalama, WA. From its beautiful rivers and forests to its quaint downtown shopping experience, Kalama sincerely embodies the typical "lil' town USA". Fine dining, Antiques, small unique shops, a bustling harbor and river industry, and a perfect location right off I-5: Kalama has it all. It's no wonder its known as "Where Highway, Rail, and Water Meet". So next time before you "talk the talk" maybe you should "walk the walk"
