So, there’s this game for the Game Cube called Viewtiful Joe, and if you believe what you read, it’s perfection in a videogame… I beg to differ, sure the graphic style is neat, and a return to old school side scrolling action is also nice to see... But this game is hard… and I mean %@ing HARD! See, even Penny Arcade agrees with me! In fact, I've had this game for a few months now, and I haven't touched it for quite a while. My renewed hatred for it was triggered by my ol' friend Phil. He was up visiting for a few days, and while I was at work, he played it. He got further than I had gotten, but couldn't get past the 4 bosses in a row section (as described in that Penny Arcade link). I was already fed up with how hard it was (especially the boss battles) so finding out that I have 4 bosses in a row to look forward to just pissed me off. I’m seriously contemplating selling the game, because I’ll just get FUMING mad when I try to play it again… I mean, aren’t games supposed to be fun?!? And if I just get angry every time I play, I’d say that it’s failing the ‘fun test.’ Capcom, you suck… You took my 40 bucks and gave me a bundle of frustration.
It's all relative. I feel that way about Tetris, but my girlfriend loves it. I personally don't find games where there is a preset way to get past enemies and levels terribly interesting, but people have eaten them up for years.
On a side note, I have a question for all you gamers. The only console game that has really captured my imagination for a long time is Morrowind. Sadly, I think I've run my course with it. Are there any other games with a similar feel out there, or that are coming out? I really like the d&d style character building and the myriad story lines.
Have you tried Neverwinter Nights? Its a top down perspective like Diablo rather than a 1st person perspective. I haven't experienced it personally, but I know it has alot of character creation, though I don't think its as open ended as Morrowind. All I know is a good chunk of people I knew in school last year were hopelessly addicted.
There's an Xbox game on the horizon called Fable that's supposed to have a pretty wide open world for adventuring. They claim that there will be plenty of quests to complete and different ways to do them (good, bad, or ugly) and your character develops depending on how you act (they've even said that NPC's will react to you differently depending on your past exploits).
This is being developed by Peter Molyneux who has previously created some pretty original games (Black & White). Let's hope he pulls off everything he's promising for this game.
I am so superly stoked about Fable. I agree w/ Yake, I hope they pull off everything they have been promising. You play from the ages 13 - 72 and everthing you do affects what will happen later in your "life"....also you can save your character and load him into another xbox, into a different person's game, and they will react to this new character as well, i.e. whether he was a tyrannical ruler, or a great warrior...etc.
Sounds so cool I can't stand it.
Fantastic. Those sound great. Thank you peeps.
