Serenity Now

When a man succeeds in hooking his wife on sci-fi, he MUST take advantage of it whenever possible. So when our 4 month sci-fi spree of Stargate:SG1 recently came to an end, I knew I had to act fast. I had heard good things about Firefly, so I put disc 1 on the top of our Netflix queue. It wasn’t long before we had chewed through the whole season, and since FOX mistreated the series, it wasn’t allowed a second season. However, they are currently making a film based on the series called Serenity and I can’t wait. I really hope the film is a big hit and Sci-Fi picks up the show for more seasons.

So what makes the show so great? I was going to go into detail, but I recently told Dave all about it in MSN Messenger, so here is the “transcript.” I’m telling you, you must rent these DVDs, this show is on par with HBO quality programming!

Well Jake, here's one I initially disagree with you on. I say initially, cause I honestly havn't given it a fair chance. I saw one episode and some advertisements for it. I was not impressed at all. I think it was worse than the first seasons of any of the Star Trek series. (i.e. Firefly could have gotten better toward the end of the season or in latter seasons if it had made it)

Anyway, I noticed Gina Torres right off the bat....I probed my grey matter and realized that she was in Cleopatra 2525. Dunno why I remembered that show....oh yea the cheasy intro music! Anyway, it's hard for me to take seriously any episode of any show she is in. Even Alias. (canned acting)

Well, those are my reasons for what they're worth.

Sorry just had to add one more impression:

I thought Firefly reminded me of an old StarTrek episode where Kirk & friends were transported to the old WildWest with Earp and Doc Holliday. Kirk and his gang were supposed to be the Clantons. It was clearly a low-budge-set passed off as semi alien.

Rule #1 in my book: NEVER cross SciFi with WildWest unless it's Anime. For some reason the Japanese have a better knack of mixing oil and water.

SO Loved Firefly! Extrememly pissed at Fox for canning it, greatly looking forward to Flick! Think there should be a mass viewing (here in Vanc/PDX of course) when it comes out.
