Down but not out

So, suprnova.org went dark a few days ago but it’s not yet time to start the funeral for bit torrent. Kieran said that this week’s Arrested Development was the funniest ever, so I decided to see how hard it would be to download it in a world without suprnova.org. The answer is not hard at all! I browsed the comments on Slashdot and found alternative sites (I ended up going with tvtorrents.tv, which has an IRC room #tvtorrents on efnet) and the show is currently downloading.

Now the observant few of you might be wondering how on earth I’m downloading a TV show over dialup, and the answer to that is, I’m not! Some dope in a nearby condo has a linksys wireless router running with all the default settings. So, not only can I connect to his network for broadband, I was able to log on to his router (linksys factory logins are user:<blank> pass:admin) and forward the necessary ports to my computer! It’s a pretty bastardly thing to do since I’m hogging all of his bandwidth right now, but I see it as me trying to teach him a lesson. I mean, I’m not doing REALLY mean things like changing his password and taking down the router, etc. Anyway, AD will be here in 1.3 hours and all without the help of our dearly departed suprnova.org.

And Brett thought I was bad, and all I did was log onto a few random networks in San Fran so I could look up someone's phone number.... I sure do love people who lack security on their networks...

Kieran was right, this was a super funny episode. If y'all out there aren't watching Arrested Development, ya need to get on it! There's a DVD floating around with the whole first season on it... send me email if you want it and I'll see if I can track it down.

Sweet, sweet IRC. It has never failed us! I think IRC was the second way I ever downloaded illegal content (first being BBS, Live on Telix!) I miss the old days...I may download mIRC just for old times.

I know what you mean about mIRC. Back before bit torrent or Kaaza or even Napster, I used mIRC to download mp3s. It was refreshing to return to my roots and it was also interesting to see that it's still going strong while all the other illegal sources have come and gone.

Oh and Telix will always hold a special place in my heart. I miss you DJO and Banished CPU!

i saw this guy parked in front of my house a few nights ago with a laptop on his lap... i guessed he was looking for a wireless router! lol Mine is not wireless, but your post reminded me of the guy parked in front of our house! lol I recommend cable High speed internet... with a linksys router NON wireless... It really is not that expensive... hehe Thanks for giving me a good laugh for today... suprnova is down... damn, I get alot of my bit torrent stuff from them!

I too have used IRC Merc sites to get music, movies etc... unfortunately, everytime i return to IRC I have forgotten how to use it... everytime i have to relearn it... too painful for me... I must be getting old... its hard being 35.
