Dark Side of the Moon

I have ‘discovered’ the most incredible album EVER. I’m sure this was only news to me (but how have I lived 26 years in this world without getting the message?) The message being “You must listen to The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd because it will blow your mind!” Never have I heard a more cohesive album, the songs all run together and the songs/lyrics focus on a common theme. Sound effects and speaking are mixed in effectively to add depth and texture to the common feel of the album.

I listened to the album a few times at work and on the bus and became more and more impressed with it. The problem was, I wasn’t able to give my undivided attention to it at work! Last Friday, Billy went out for a run so I turned off all the lights, laid down and listened to the album in its entirety. Never has an album taken me away like this one did. The experience was so immersive that I felt as if I was watching an engrossing movie in my head.

If you somehow have never listened to this beaut, do yourself a favor and go buy it. It's as good as it gets.

My wife bought a commentary DVD on "Dark Side..." in which Waters, Gilmore, and the other band members are interviewed. I haven't been able to watch it in its entirety, but from what I have watched so far, it's pretty good. Let me know if you want to borrow it. If so, I'll hand it to your dad here at Boeing, and he can deliver to you. FYI, I think the "wall" is better than "dark side...".

Sure, I'd like to take a look at that DVD!

So, I've listened to The Wall a few times (in fact I'm listening to it right now!) but I haven't been able to get into it... There are some good songs (Comfortably Numb is probably my favorite) but I don't enjoy the album as a whole.

The only other Floyd album I've listened to is Wish You Were Here which I like almost as much as Dark Side...

OK. I'll bring it to work tomorrow and hand it to your dad. Enjoy.
