And this weekend I got to play a lot! First there was Pikmin 2, which I beat on Friday afternoon. Then Billy and Kalin came over and we went to the Sunnyside McMenamins for burgers and beers (oh, and we ordered an extra basket of fries after we finished our meals, because they’re just that good!) Went back to our place and watched the two-part season finale of Stargate SG1. Played some more Pikmin, went to bed.
On Saturday afternoon, Dave and Scott came over to play some boardgames. Scott was running a little late, so Dave, Kara and I played Zirkus Flohcati while we waited. Once he showed up, we played Puerto Rico. I won, but no great feat since Dave only vaguely recalled the rules, Scott was new to German games, and Kara was sick! After PR, Kara was down for the count and retired to the couch. We three boys continued, and played Drakon and Daytona 500. Drakon was only ok... I always feel like that game just barely works, and I’ve actually seen it completely break on one occasion. It’s definitely just a filler game, but it seems too mean-spirited to even do that well... Daytona 500, however, was better than I remembered; somehow I forgot that it’s so fraught was difficult decisions (though I don’t know how I did, since that’s Knizia’s trademark).
On Sunday, Billy and Kalin came back over and we played outside all day. First, copious amounts of fetch with Cooper, then lunch at the park, then baseball at the school down the street from our house. After we tired of smacking the wiffle ball with the giant orange plastic bat, we walked back to my car (we had driven to the store and the park before arriving at the school, otherwise we probably would have just walked there since it was so close). We all got in the car except Billy, who was still throwing the Frisbee around. I started the car and thought it would be funny to slowly drive away while Billy tried to get in. But instead of trying, Billy turned around and started running back toward our house!
A race!! I popped the car in gear and sped through the parking lot and pulled out onto the street with only a cursory glance for traffic. At this point Billy was already across the street and starting to turn at our intersection! I hurried to the intersection and turned left onto our street (again with far less caution than I would normally use) and then bombed down the street to our driveway. Billy had the head start and didn’t have to worry about traffic, yet the three of us in the Tempo arrived at our house the victors! In your face, running!
More fetch with Cooper and lazing around outside while listening to Radiohead’s Amnesiac. Once B&K left, Kara and I watched the second part of “evil” Enterprise (nice idea, now maybe if it had a point...) and the season premiere of Family Guy. Kara fell asleep halfway through American Dad, so I was free to watch Deadwood! Afterward, I realized that the second half of the third season of Curb Your Enthusiasm was now on OnDemand, so I binged and watched all 5 in a row. In bed at 1:30am, a weekend well done.
It was a grand time had by all....God bless us...every one!
Oops, Daytona is a Kramer game, NOT a Knizia game!
