Yesterday I watched Bullets Over Broadway, a film written and directed by Woody Allen. This movie takes place in the ‘20’s or ‘30’s, it’s about a playwright trying to get his new play produced. His last two plays were flops, so the producers pass on it. Then, a gangster decided to fund it so that his girlfriend can be on Broadway, the problem? She sucks at acting, AND his play needs a little work. The movie goes through the rehearsal up through the opening show. This movie was very enjoyable, though I felt it had a forced faked happy ending. John Cusack gets back with his girlfriend, but she’s hardly in the movie, so there really is no emotional investment of the audience into their relationship. John’s realization that he’s not an artist, however, is a bitter-sweet decision that he must make from the events of the movie (Cheech’s help of reworking the play). Overall a very enjoyable movie. Three stars.
