Pics and Diffs

I posted pictures from our first days in Sydney and yesterday’s snorkeling trip in the gallery. But then you should be checking there regularly with the ‘Photo Gallery’ link to the right.

And with that said, here are a few differences between old home and new home that I’ve noticed so far…

  • Alcohol can only be purchased at ‘bottle shops.’ That means no beer or wine or anything at grocery stores or 7-elevens! And (brace yourself) a six pack of beer costs $18.99!!!
  • Rice Krispies are called Rice Bubbles.
  • Warning on cigarette pack: “SMOKING HARMS UNBORN CHILDREN” followed by a picture of a premature baby hooked up to an incubator.
  • You can’t transfer buses with a bus ticket. And, your bus ticket costs a different amount depending on how long you are going to ride that bus.
  • Cellphones are very expensive here… a 29 cent connection fee and 39 cents every 30 seconds after that! You don’t have to sign a one year contract though, you can prepay for time as you go with no commitment.
